yes. an electric generator works on the principle of electromagnetic induction. current is produced in a current carrying conductor when there is a change in magnetic field. it can be due to motion of magnets or even due to a coil in which current passes provided that the coil is near to the current carrying coil.
in generator Fleming's right hand rule is used. The rule states that: stretch your thumb, index and middle finger of right hand such that they indicate the direction of motion of conductor, magnetic field and induced current respectively.( you can use MMC as an acronym to remember). in the generator we apply force on the conductor which has poles of magnet near it which induces current. i hope it helps
