The genes control the characteristic by making a specific protein. Genes are the segment of DNA that contains information to form RNA which ultimately forms protein. Each gene contains two alleles and this instructs the cell to make protein for expression of traits.

If the plant has gene for green seeds then it will make protein which will give green colour to seeds.

"Genes Control Traits"

Genes control the traits of living organisms. Consider, for example, the spread of hair color from parents to offspring in the case. If a mother has dark brown hair, the father has tresses, and the child has tresses, the following hair color genes are passed down from mother to child: Two HH genes for black hair are found in the mother's cell. Despite the fact that both HH genes are dominant, the mother has black hair. The father's cell contains two tresses' genetic material (hh). Because the hh genetics are recessive, the father has tresses.
