A conference was held to discuss naval arms limitation, held in Geneva,Switzerland to confront the issue of naval rivalries, between Spring 1927 and August 1927. Britain and Japan accepted the invitation, but France and Italy declined. The conference was doomed from the beginning. The U.S wanted to extend to the 5:5:3 ratio beyond the capital ships to the lesser vessels. The British and Japanese agreed the principle, but then cited various special circumstance that should exempt them from strict adherence to the proposal. The U.S decided that the only way to get the other countries to agree to the additional limitation on armaments was by resuming the naval construction race, which was which it began in 1929.(NOTE: THIS IS DIFFERENT THAN GENEVA CONFERENCE OF 1932.)The geneva conference was held in 1954.....
