Production of gametophytes directly from diploid cells of the sporophytes without spore formation (as in certain ferns and mosses).

"      Apospory has two terms apo and spory where apo means the embryo sac and spory means the sporophytic which together means that when the sporophytic cells gives rise to the embryo sac, it is called as apospory. This is done in order to retain the gametophyte in diploidy.

     Generative apospory is the term given to the embryo sac risen out of archeporium which is a sporophytic cell. apospory involves ameiotic division. "
