Answer:

The union of Nepal began in 1799, when King Prithvi Narayan Shah of Gorkha undertook an ambitious annexation effort to expand the boundaries of his own empire. After conquering the Nepal Mandala, which included the three independent city-states of the Kathmandu Valley, Kathmandu, Lalitpur, and Bhaktapur, Shah relocated his hilly capital in Gorkha to the rich and prosperous city of Kathmandu and gave the Gorkha Empire the name Nepal. Additionally, the Shah dynasty would go on to unite the numerous warring kingdoms that once controlled areas of modern-day Nepal into a nation-state that extended as far west as the Sutlej River and as far east as Sikkim-Jalpaiguri.  Before the Gorkha Empire, the Kathmandu Valley was referred to as Nepal after the Nepal Mandala, the region's Nepal Bhasa name.

Background info-Bise Nagarche proposed to King Prithivi Narayan Shah that a fund be raised from the 12000 roofs of Gorkha State to purchase weapons. Dahachok residents backed Prithivi Narayan Shah's assault on Nuwakot. Kalu Pande was appointed Kaji with the consent of the people.
