Perhaps the most important mountainous geographical feature is that of the Himalayas. This is a mountain range in Asia that separates Asia from the Indian subcontinent (also considered to be part of Asia today). The Indian subcontinent was once a part of Africa, but the subcontinent broke away from Africa and smashed into Asia over 50 million years ago, which created the Himalayas. Because the Indian subcontinent is technically still smashing into Asia, the Himalayas continue to grow about 2 inches every year.
