Geographical reason of there are fewer natural ports on the eastern coast of india

Lots of rivers fall into the Bay of Bengal and these rivers carry lots of sediments with them. These sediments deposit along the coastline. It makes the gradient less steep. Therefore, a heavy vessel or ship might still be in water when it's Hull touches the ground and still it might be few miles away from the coastline. So, it won't drop all its goods and/or passengers while still in water, right? :-)

2) And in any case height of Eastern ghats is also quite low(it's pretty old geologically, therefore more erosion has happened ) for a mountain range therefore gradient even without rivers is not that steep.

3) Winds and waves. Winds have effect on height and magnitude of waves. Smaller the area of ocean/sea lesser will be the height of waves, thus lesser blast on the coast, thus lesser erosion. Now, ofcourse Bay of Bengal is a sea, but it's not that big and open therefore to some extend erosion by the waves is lesser along its coasts.

That's why coasts along eastern ghats are not that good for port development. But, yes there are many ports on eastern coasts of India like at Kolkata, paradeep, Ennore etc. These are there because of some localised geographical features which may be natural or Manmade.

Natural ports or the natural harbours are such waterlands around the coast regions which are deep enough toperform anchorage procedures.

This ports have great importance in economical and naval aspects.

India has more natural ports in western coasts rather than the eastern coasts because;

A) in the eastern coasts the rivers produce the delta forms that's why the waterlands in the eastern coast are not deep enough for anchorage procedures.

But on the other hand;

B)the rivers in the western coast occur the submergence, that's why the waterlandsinthe western coasts are deep and broad enough to support the anchorage procedures.
