Draw a diagnal from A to B, this will be the displacement (shortest distance).Take the point opposite to A and B as X.

Now, Applying pythagoras theorem,

(AB)^2=(AX)^2+(XB)^2

(AB)^2=(8cm)^2+(6cm)^2

(AB)^2=64 cm^2 + 36 cm^2

(AB)^2=100 cm^2

AB=sqrt(100 cm^2)

AB=10 cm

Shortest distance from point A to B i.e. AB=10cm
