Answer: 7\frac{1}{2}hr

Step-by-step explanation:

  • Given,Speed of boat in still water=\frac{48}{4}km/hr=12km/hr
  • Also,George rowed 60 km in 3 hrs with the current.
  • So,net speed of the boat with the current=\frac{60}{3}km/hr=20km/hr
  • If the speed of boat in still water is 12km/hr then the speed of current=(20-12)km/hr

                    =8km/hr

  • If he has to row 30 km against the stream then resultant speed will be=(12-8)km/hr

                   =4km/hr

  • ∴ Time required=\frac{30}{4}hr

                                   =7\frac{1}{2}hr

  • Hence, time required to go 30km against the current is 7\frac{1}{2}hr.
