George was very angry at his wife Mrs. Pearson for not having prepared tea for him. He did not know that Mrs. Pearson was actually Mrs. Fitzerald. So he tried to act dominatingly as he always did. However, he was shocked to see Mrs. Pearson behaving dominatingly.
George was a selfish, self-centered husband. Seeing Mrs. Pearson behave aggressively, Mr. George became defensive and docile.

Explanation:
George tells Mrs. Pearson that he does not want any tea. When Mrs. Pearson tells him that there is no tea ready for him he gets annoyed. She wonders why he is annoyed at not getting his tea ready while he does not want it. This seems rather odd to her.
