Georgia moves an unattached piece of wire back and forth over a magnet. Which best explains what will happen?
A current will be induced because the wire moves through a magnetic field. A current will not be induced because the wire moves through a magnetic field.
A current will be induced because the wire is not part of a closed circuit. A current will not be induced because the wire is not part of a closed circuit.

A current will not be induced because the wire is not part of a closed circuit.

  • First Law of Faraday's Electromagnetic Induction states that whenever a conductor is placed in a varying magnetic field electromotive force is induced which is called as the induced emf in case there is a closed circuit.
  • When there is an open circuit (unattached wire ends) then there is no potential difference and eventually, there is no induced current, as the current flows from higher potential difference to low potential difference in a closed circuit.
