After the defeat of Germany at the end of the first world war in 1919 the victorious allies wanted to punish Germany for starting the war and also triple it so that it cannot rise again for the Germans the provisions in force on them by the Treaty of Versailles swear slavish this created a reaction in Germany which led to the rise of Hitler and his Nazi party they wanted to recover the territories lost by them in the Treaty of Versailles German dominance over Central Europe and end the restrictions on German ornaments German crystallized Excel furiously under the Nazi and developed a massive army and armament industry which could only be served by a war .....

The four main reasons for the world war 2 are: 
1)The treaty of Versailles
A conference was conducted in 1919 which was attended by victorious countries like US, UK, France, Italy and Japan. But the defeated countries like Germany, Russia, Turkey and Austria were not invited to the conference.Delegates from 32 countries attended the conference which represented three-fourth of population of the world. The victorious countries felt that Germany was the reason for war so they imposed severe punishments on Germany. They told Germany to give back the colonies which they occupied from Africa. It was also asked to return Alsace and Lorraine which they occupied from France. They brought down the army of Germany 9 lakh to 1 lakh. Germany did not mind the punishments as they were not invited to it.
2)Failure of league of nations
League of nations was formed in treaty of versailles to bring peace and stop wars in future.US President Woodrow Wilson played a key role in it's formation.But US parliament denied to be a member of it.So the league of nations had only 58 members.
3)German challenge to vengeful dominance
Germany felt that they were humiliated a lot through versailles treaty.So Adolf Hitler of Nazi party promised to bring back the pride of Germany and make it most dominative country in the world.He started to increase the military.
4)Fear of socialism from Russia
In 1917 a revolution took place in Russia which led to the ideas of communism and socialism. So Russia formed as USSR (union of soviet socialistic republic).The capitalistic countries like UK and US thought that this would make the people of their countries to revolute. So they encouraged Hitler against Russia which is called appeasement policy.
Not only these four reasons, but the immediate cause for world war 2 is when Germany attacked Danzing port of Netherlands.The countries Britain and France joined against Germany which thereby led to the war.
