Ranilaxmi Bai (manikarnika) also popularly known as Rani of Jhansi was the Queen of Jhansi district in Uttar Pradesh. She was born on 19th November, 1828 in Varanasi and was named Manikarnika by her parents.
She was married to the King of Jhansi, Raja Gangadhar Rao and had a son named Damodar Rao in 1851. Sadly in 4 months, her son passed away and she along with Raja Gangadhar, adopted the son of his cousin and named him Damodar Rao.
Rani laxmibai was known to be the face of the 1857 rebellion against the Britishers. Her valor and courage gave the British government a very tough time.

झांसी की रानी स्वतंत्रता के लिए लड़ रही वह पहली नारी थी जो उस वक्त के सभी महिलाओं के लिए किसी देवी से कम नहीं थी। जो पर्दों के पीछे रहने वालों में से नहीं थी। वह आवाज उठाती थी बुरे अंग्रेजों के खिलाफ जो धरती मां को बेचकर खाना चाहता था।
वह एक ऐसी लहू थी जिस की वीरता देखकर अंग्रेजी सरकार भी दंग रह गए थे और उन्होंने यह स्वीकार कर लिया था की झांसी की रानी अपने आप में एक मिशाल थी। जो गलत के आगे सर नहीं झुकाती थी।इतिहास के पन्नों में में झांसी की रानी के नाम सदियों तक रहेंगे और वह स्मरणीय रहेंगी।
