‘Ghosts on the verandah’, is a hilarious story by Ruskin Bond. It satirises the false eeriness caused by ghost stories.

EXPLANATION:

In the short story ‘Ghosts on the verandah’, Ruskin Bond talks of a lady called Bibiji, his attractive neighbour who had the habit of relating ghost stories. She was so fully informed about ghosts that she could minutely categorise them and state their peculiar traits.

Her narrations were so life-like that Ruskin Bond along with Bibiji and her family began dwelling in an illusory world of ghosts. Bibiji herself was so much haunted by her created ghosts that she mistook Ruskin Bond to be a ghost fleeing in his pyjamas. Bond thus makes fun of the effect of story-telling of ghosts.
