Cu + H2O gives CuO +H2

here Cu is oxidised to CuO hence oxidation

H2O is reduced to H2 hence reduction

Answer:

Explanation:

(i) In a redox reaction, the reductant transfers

electrons to the oxidant.

(ii) Then in the reaction, the reductant or reducing

agent loses electrons and is oxidised and the

oxidant or oxidizing agent gains electrons and is

reduced.

(iii) ∴ Hence, in the above equation, reductant is SO2

and oxidant is H2

S

MnO2

+ 4HCl → MnCl2

+ 2H2

O + Cl2

(i) Reductant: MnO2

- as it loses oxygen.

(ii) Oxidant: HCl - as it gains oxygen.
