The complete question is:

Sprint events in track and field usually consists of the 100 m , 200 m and 400 m race though 60 m dashers are also held on occasion . These races are largely based upon the athlete's ability to accelerate to his or her maximum speed in the quickest time possible . Girish wants to participate in 200 m Sprint . He can currently run that distance in 45 sec . But he wants to do that in under 30 sec . With each day of practice , it takes him 2 sec less. Respond to the above situation by answering following questions.

1. What is minimum number of days he need to practice till his goal is accomplished?

2. Write the AP for the above situation.

Given:

Girish can run 200 m in 45 sec

With each day of practice, he takes 2 sec less

To find:

1. The minimum number of days he need to practice till his goal is accomplished?

2. The AP for the above situation.

Solution:

Currently Girish runs 200 m in 45 sec

Therefore a= 45

Then with each day of practice, he takes 2 seconds less,

Therefore d = -2

He wants to complete it in 30 sec

Therefore, the final term of AP = 30

an = a1 + (n-1)d

an = final term

a1 = first term

n = number of terms

d = difference

30 = 45 + (n-1)(-2)

n = 8.5

Girish would take 9 days.

The AP will be 45, 43, 41, 39, 37, 35, 33, 31 , 29.
