SUBLIMATION

✫Sublimation is the process of change in a state of matter , just like melting , freezing or evaporation.

✫In the process of sublimation, a substance changes from its solid phase to its gaseous phase without passing through its liquid phase.

✫Sublimation is caused by the absorption of heat which provides enough energy for some molecules to overcome the attractive forces of their surrounding molecules and escape into the vapour phase.

SUBLIME SUBSTANCES

✵Typically, solids undergo sublimation at low pressures(in vacuum).

✵At standard atmospheric pressure, very few solids sublime.

Examples of such substances are - iodine, naphthalene, arsenic.

However, the term sublimation refers to a physical change of state , and is not used to describe the transformation of a solid to a gas in a chemical reaction.
