Balanced chemical reaction for preparation of orthoboric acid from borax:-

2 HCl + Na2B4O7 * 10H2O → 4 H3BO3 + 2 NaCl + 5 H2O.

Orthboric acid is a white or colorless crystalline compound (acid).

It is soluble in water and ethanol.

It is used as an antiseptic, preservative, insecticide, flame retardant, neutron absorber, etc.

It is also known as boric acid, hydrogen borate or boracic acid.

It is prepared by reacting borax with a mineral acid like hydrochloric acid and also by product of hydrolysis of boron trihalides and diborane.
