The local government in India has many sub tires.

Every village has a $Gram Panchayat$. $Gram Panchayats$ of few villages together form $Gram Sabha$ or $Panchayat Samiti$. $Gram Sabhas$ of all villages in a district together forms $Zilla Parishad.$ This is further joined with the state government.
