The Indian physical features are as:
1. Northern Mountains : It is formed of the Himalayas. It is helps in the process of orogeny which gives rise to Orographic rainfall by acting as a physical barrier. It is one of the longest range. It is divided into three- outer, lesser and greater Himalayas.
2. Indo-ganetic plan or the Gangetic plain- it is the most fertile plain containing the alluvial soil. It is known as rice bowl of India. It covers an approximate 700.000 square kilometres.
3. Peninsular Plateau- It is other wise known as deccan or deccan trap. It is the oldest and formed due to major volcanic activities. it has rich deposits of igneous rocks.It is a resource rich zone.
4.Costal Plains form a very large shore line. It has many ports and contribute to a vibrant economy. It comprises of western coastal plain and eastern coastal plain.Estarn coastal plain is more broadly developed that the western coast plain.The konkan coast in the western coastal plain is more rugged.
5. Islands- Lakshadweep and Andaman Nicobar islands both belong to India. They are also union territories.
6. Indian Dessert- It is the western most part of the India. This part of India receives the least rainfall. It has less vegetation cover.
