The significant figures  (SF)  in  a  measurement are  the figures  or digits  that  are known  with  certainty  plus  one  that is  uncertain.  Significant  figures  in  a  measured  value  of  a  physical  quantity  tell  the  number  of  digits  in  which  wehave  confidence.  Larger  the  number  of  significant  figures  obtained  in  a  measurement,  greater  is  its  accuracyand  vice  versa.
