In the seventeenth century, the country of france witnessed a triangular slave trade in africa america and europe. The carribean countries of guadeloupe, san domingo and martinique were important trade centres. Merchants from europe bought slaves from local chiftains in africa( negroes) and sold it to Americans. Until the late eighteenth century no one questioned about it . The revolutionary govt tried implement laws to eradicaye it, but did not do it because of the fear of big businessmen. Later in 1794 the jacobin govt abolished it before it was reintroduced in 1804 by Napolean. Finally slave trade was abolished in 1848.

Hi friend,

Here is the answer:

SLAVE TRADE IN FRANCE:-

1) The reluctant of Europeans to go and work in distance and unfamiliar lands meant a shortage of labour on the plantation.

2) The triangular slave trade was between Europe, Africa and Americas

3) French Merchants sailed from the ports of bordeux or nantes to African coast.

4) They bought slaves from local cheiftains

5) The slaves were packed tightly into the ships for three months long voyage across Atlantic to Caribbean

6) They were sold to the plantation owners

7) The exploitation of slaves made it to meet the growing demand in European markets.

8) (Steps taken to abolish the slave trade) The national assembly held debates about the rights of men.

9) But they didn't pass laws fearing opposition fro. businessmen whose incomes depended on the slave trade.

10) It was finally the convention which in 1794 legislated to free all the slaves in the French overseas possession.

Hope my answer helps you :)
