Answer:

The importance of the Ganga plain is as follows-

  • The Ganges Plain, also known as the Indus-Gangetic Plain and the North Indian River Plain,  is a vast and fertile plain.
  • It includes most of northern and eastern India, the most populous parts of Pakistan, some parts of southern Nepal and almost all of Bangladesh.
  • This region is named after two rivers, the Indus and the Ganges, which irrigate it.
  • Due to the fertile soil for agriculture, the density of population in this area is very high.
  • The Gangetic plain is the most important area in India for the habitation of the people.
  • Its western part comprising Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi and western Uttar Pradesh is slightly higher and is 150 meters higher than the eastern part of the plain.
  • The entire area is made up of alluvial soil brought by the rivers originating from the Himalayas.
  • The alluvial soil here is also of two types – Bangar and Khadar. The soil in the plains of Haryana, which includes Delhi, is generally sandy and limy.
  • The upper part of the Gangetic plain is quite vast and the role and impact of rivers in life here are immense.
  • The soil is generally alluvial, but there is a difference between the soil of the higher and lower areas. The middle plain is between the upper and lower reaches.
  • From the point of view of land formation, the lower Ganges plain extends to Bihar and West Bengal. It rains more here. It is divided into six sub-regions: North Bihar plain, South Bihar plain, Barind belt, Bandha estuary, River estuary and Radha plain.

1. The Indus-Ganga plains, commonly referred to as the "Great Plains," are enormous floodplains formed by the Indus, Ganga, and Brahmaputra river systems.

2.  They drain the majority of Northern and Eastern India and run parallel to the Himalaya Mountains from Jammu and Kashmir and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa in the west to Assam in the east.

3. Due to their flat topography, they are crucial for developing communities and enterprises. Construction of the road and communication networks is also simple.

4. They can grow important crops like rice, wheat, sugarcane, and other things. The Ganga Plain in the north is heavily inhabited.
