Answer:
Explanation:
blue rebellion was a peasant uprising of indigo farmers against indigo plantation. it started in march 1859 in bengal. thousands of farmers in bengal refused to grow indigo and attacked the indigo industries and refused to pay rent to indigo planters as the planters promoted the 'in demand in britain' indigo in lieu of food crops and mistreated the farmers to increase their profits. planters ceased their properties, demanded high interests on loans which left farmers indebted for life. thus the blue rebellion started in bengal. it is called blue rebellion because indigo is used to make blue dye which was in demand in europe.
Explanation:
The demand for the indigo increased in colonial time which led to the increase in the cultivation of indigo in India. This, in turn, forced peasants and cultivators to grow crops on such land which was fertile. Thus, this land could not be reused for other cultivation. Also, for indigo cultivation, one needed to have a large number of labourers, proper arrangement of the equipment like ploughs, etc. The indigo cultivation came out to be an oppressive method which Britishers imposed on the Zamindars and peasants. Due to all this, in 1859, a Blue rebellion started in Bengal by the ryots who refused to grow Indigo. They refused to pay rent and also attacked Indigo factories. Women also participated in this. Local zamindars and village headman also supported ryots who were forced to sign the contracts under the ryoti system. Thus, when the situation became out of control, the military was called to control the situation, and the government decided to look at the situation. As a result, Indigo Commission solved the issues of the ryots and also they were allowed to refuse the production of the Indigo as per their wish.
