multipurpose river valley project have been developed in all over the world to utilize water. these projects serve many objectives at the same time.under a multipurpose river valley project ,a dam or a series of dam are constructed across the river for storing water.this stored water for several purposes ,such as irrigation , generation of hydroelectricity,afforestation,flood control ,navigation etc .

for ex Damodar river valley project and Hirakud dam in India.
