<b>Tidal power or tidal energy is a form of hydropower that converts the energy obtained from tides into useful forms of power, mainly electricity. Although not yet widely used, tidal energy has potential for future electricity generation. Tides are more predictable than the wind and the sun.

The important factor here is the current of the waves as in motion in laymen's term. The tidal energy harvesting is based on the concept of the conversation of the mechanical energy into electrical energy.

The motion of the tides is used to move the shaft of the dynamo. Dynamo is the transducer and it takes up the motion via shaft moving with the tide’s action and converts this motion into electricity. Dyno consists of the rotator (magnetic) which induces a current in the coil wound around the rotator but separated by little distance and is static part in the dynamo. The shaft is usually connected with the wings which move the shaft just like air does in windmills. I took the liberty to paste an image here for better understanding.(see attached file)
