A Brief Introduction-
William Faulkner is a very powerful novelist and short story writer of America. He was born in New Albany in the State of Mississippi on 25th September, 1897. After leaving school Faulkner worked in his grandfather's bank as a book-keeper. But he had uterary inclinations from his early boyhood days. He started writing short stories for recreation. Gradually he became a professional writer of sales and moveis. He acqutred fame as a novelist over Europe and America In spite of all the fame that he enjoyed, he lived a dissipated life. His family life was not happy. He kept riding and foa-hunting, occasionally falling down from his horse and receiving injuries. However, a happy change came in his Ilfe when he was appointed as a Lecturer in the University of Virginia. He received the Nobel Prize for Literature in 1949. But he could not give up his old habit of drinking too hard. He was compelled to go to the sanatorium where he died of massive heart attack on July 6. 1962 .
