• There was a Dacoit named Angulimala. The same people who know Buddha also know Angulimala. He cut off the fingers of 999 victims and created a crown from the pieces. To make a garland, he would simply cut off people's fingers  and slaughter them.
• I was looking for the thousandth finger! He looked at a charming man. "Your finger can serve as a pendant" he thought. So he went down the slope while shouting loudly, "I am Angulimala approaching" and Buddha remained unmoved. I am Angulimala as you know. Just hearing his name triggered fear in the population. Angulimala approached the Buddha and looked at him in surprise.
• Angulimala stumbled and fell at the feet of the Buddha. Yes, go ahead, do you want my finger commented the Buddha. However, Angulimala could not. At the feet of Buddha, collapsed. While living with the Buddha, Angulimala practiced very strict austerity.
• You have now reached a very good level. Now go and teach, said the Buddha. Now this man travels to the areas where he had his fingers bandaged to impart knowledge to the locals. When someone came up to him and said, "What happened?" He had such a big smile but he was so calm. People said, "Look, here's someone who wanted to help someone, and then they hit him with stones and hurt him."
• However, he never felt physically hurt as he was always smiling. And when asked why he was smiling, "You see, these people are showing how much pain and stress they've had in their lives" he commented. He persevered and when everyone noticed that Angulimala was not responding and  was still smiling, calm and composed, he succeeded. People are more intrigued when you don't answer.
• Since everyone experiences a typical reaction, everyone feels happy and cheerful. Anguliamala then realized that the stillness is caused by a single individual.
