Answer:
The lawyer was a young ambitious man. He was employed as a junior assistant lawyer in a law firm and had to serve summons. He would have to go to the dark corners of the city where all the criminal activities happened to serve summons and many-a-times, he even got beaten up. He wasn't brave enough to face those people. He hated his job and wanted to become a "real lawyer" and do official work. He was a naïve and gullible person and easily got carried away by the friendly talks of bill. He was inexperienced and rather than keeping the purpose of his visit a secret, he openly tells Bill that he had come to serve summons to Lutkins. He was not sharp-minded and didn't doubt the over-friendly nature of Bill a bit. He was irresponsible towards his duty and rather than investigating himself about Lutkins, he allowed Bill to do so, while he lingered behind him. He didn't have presence of mind and almost forgot the purpose of his visit enjoying Bill's company. He could be fooled very easily. He didn't have any inclination towards his work. He didn't want to go through his tough training and rather directly practice law. This suggests that he was a nonchalant person wanting to escape hardships in life.
