valliammai is the central character of the story "Madam Rides the Bus". She is a young girl of eight years and her favourite postime was to stand at the doorway of her house , and observed the bus that travelled from her village to the nearest town and back again with new sets of passenger each time . Looking at the bus passing by , Valli developed strong desire to enjoy ride by the bus and this journey by bus all by herself reveals to us that Valli was a girl who who was more mature than her age. She was quite confident and bold by nature and she also prove herself to be a good planner as she managed to enjoy the bus ride without the knowledge of her mother and returned home safely after enjoying the bus ride.
