Give a chemical test to distinguish between 1-butyne and 2-butyne

1-butyne and 2-Butyne are distinguished by
"Tollins reagent test ".
1-butyne gives tollins reagent test but
2-Butyne doesn't.

● Answer -
Reaction with ammoniacal Cu2Cl2 solution

● Explaination -
- As terminal hydrogen in 1-butyne is acidic, it reacts with ammoniacal Cu2Cl2 to give red ppt of copper-1-butynide.
2CH3-C≡CH + Cu2Cl2 ---> 2CH3-C≡CCu + 2HCl
- 2-butyne due to absence of terminal acidic hydrogen, doesnt give this ppt.

# Alternative tests -
- NaNH2 test
- Ammoniacal AgNO3 test
