Answers
1. Sectional interest groups seek to promote the interests of a particular section or group of society. For example - trade unions, business associations and professional bodies of teachers, lawyers, doctors etc.
2. Comparatively, Public interest groups (or promotional groups) are organizations that promote collective rather than selective good in the interest of the entire society.
3. Sectional interest groups play an important role in creating awareness about their problems, aims and goals in society through various ways such as public demonstrations, rallies etc. However, they are only concerned about the betterment and well being of their members, and not the society in general.
4. As against them, public interest groups aim to help groups other than their own members. For example - a group fighting against bonded labour fights not for itself but for those who are suffering under such bondage.
5. Sometimes they may also undertake activities that benefit them as well as others too. For example - BAMCEF (Backward and Minority Communities Employees Federation) is an organization that campaigns against caste discrimination. Although, it addresses the problems of its members its principal concern is social justice and social equality for all.
