Overlapping:-When some social differences overlap with other differences.

As for instance ,in US Blacks were tend to be poor,homeless and discrimated.

This lead to social division when people started feeling isolated.


Cross cutting:-When one difference eliminate another one in such condition it is difficult to pit group of people against other.

In Netherland,class and religion tend to cut across each other.Catholics and Protestant are about equally likely to be poor or rich

Cross cutting differences are easier to accommodate.
