On August 6, 1945, the United States dropped an atomic bomb on the Japanese city of Hiroshima in an attempt to end World War II. Sadako and the Thousand Paper Cranes, by Eleanor Coerr, tells the true story of a young girl named Sadako Sasaki. Sadako Sasaki was a baby when the bomb devastated Hiroshima.
