Himalayas : The

westernmost part of Himalaya is located between the river Indus in the West and Satluj in the East. This is

(ii) Kumaon

Himalayas : The western

part of the Himalaya which is situated between the Satluj river in the West and Kali river in the East.

(iii) Nepal Himalayas : It lies in between Kali and Tista rivers.

(iv) Assam

Himalayas : The eastern

most part is located between the river Tista in the West and Dihang in the East.

(v)  Purvanchal Hills : It is the north-eastern extension of Himalayas.

(vi) The Himalaya bend sharply to the South and

spread along the eastern boundary of India.

The divisions of the Himalayas from West to East are:-

(i) The part lyin, between the Indus and Sadluj rivers has been traditionally known as Punjab Himalayas, but it is also known regjonally as Kashmir and Himachal Himalayas from West to East, respectively.

(ii) The part lying between the Satluj and Kali rivers is known as Kumaon Himalayas.

(iii) The part lying between the Kali and Teesta rivers is known as Nepal Himalayas.

(iv) The part lying between the Teesta and Dihang rivers is known as Assam Himalayas.

(v) Beyond the Dihang gorge, the Himalayas bend sharply to the South and spread along the Eastern boundary of India. They are known as the Purvachal or the Eastern hills and mountains.
