The India's northern plains are also known as Indo Gangetic plains. The name Indo Gangetic appeared from the Indus and Ganges rivers flowing on them.

It is surrounded by Himalayas and south by Chita Nagpur plateau and west by Iranian plateau. The Indo Gangetic plain silt is the largest expansive alluvium silts or mud deposition which is formed by number of rivers.

The population rate is higher and about 400 million people are living here. The cotton, maize and sugarcane are the main crops planted in this plain.
