Answer:

This is one of my favorite quotes because whether we like it or not, setbacks, disappointments are part and parcel of being in sales — of course, we would like to have continued success, but it never happens like that.

Sales Leadership will throw upon you the responsibility of carrying everyone along. Sometimes it can be very lonely and tough — and the occasional failures don’t help. When you encounter setbacks, you have a duty not just to yourself, but to your team to motivate yourself back up. Failure is just an event, not a person. And it doesn’t matter what your current situation is, because winners act like winners before they start winning.

Failure is just an event, not a person.

Accidents happen, and when I say accidents, I’m talking about failures, disappointments or setbacks. As a sales leader, these failures don’t define you and mean absolutely nothing unless you choose to make it mean. It’s never your choice to fail, but you do have a choice either in staying down or picking yourself up and going right at it.

Have you ever seen a baby walk? This may seem like a very common analogy, but if you have, then you would know falling down does not keep the baby down. If it did, then how did we all learn to walk.

Most people are on a behavioral roller-coaster depending entirely on their external circumstances — they cannot handle failure, so when things aren’t going well, they get overwhelmed and are depressed, and when things are going well, they are confident. However, when you step up as a leader, regardless of the circumstances (failure or success), your mindset and behavior should remain constant. So, ask yourself: “As a sales leader, am I consistent both in the good and bad times?”

When you experience failure, do you pick yourself right back up and confront the future head on or do you just wallow in self-pity?

So, we may fall by accident (we don’t have a choice in that), but we sure do have a choice to get back up and get back right back into the action.
