Explanation:

I had a childhood filled with grandfatherly lectures on all kinds of matters: On the value of taking chances (chances he'd never had the opportunity to take). On the importance of doing the right thing (even if that wasn't the most expedient course of action). On the things that REALLY matter in life (money wasn't one of them, but on the other hand...). I learned from my grandfather's lectures almost until the day he died at age 93 -- when he informed me that it was time for him to meet his maker, even if the rest of us thought otherwise. (I should mention that, in his last years, grandpa had taken to checking in with me in the middle of the night... despite the 4 AM hour, he'd always begin the call with "So, what's new?")

When I'm back in my hometown, I sometimes drive past the senior citizens center where my grandfather helped to build an ornate brick fence. At the time it was going up, I recall him holding forth about the importance of taking pride in your work. I also remember how much he enjoyed chatting with "some of the old folks" inside the retirement home. Those thoughts from a man well into his eighties.

I believe we have many mentors as we come of age. I like to think that we continue to grow thanks to the advice of others, all the while giving back by sharing what (in my case, I suspect, precious little) wisdom we've acquired.

Answer:

my grandfather is my hero.

Defined in the dictionary, grandfather means the father of a person's own father or mother. I believe it is much more than that. My grandpa is a friend and a hero. As I wrote this essay, I discovered what people meant when they said “You are just like your grandfather.” I will take that as the best compliment I will ever receive. If I could be like anyone in the world, it would be Robert Vhin; my hero, my friend, my grandpa. Sitting in his rocking chair with his white hair brushed up to the front in a sort of Elvis like style, I admire this man. His wrinkles are deep from 88 years of laughter and smiles. You can almost read the history in his face. He raises his eyebrows just a tad when he smiles. His dimples slightly show around his …show more content…

White hairs are always popping out of the neckline of his shirt. He has many pants but is only willing to wear three pairs of them; a khaki pair and two identical old faded light blue pairs of jeans. His shoes have Velcro straps so he can avoid bending over to tie them. His belt seems to always match his outfit. He has a style of a man interested in comfort not fashion. His heart is the only thing bigger than his nose. As I watch him kiss my grandma on the cheek, I admire his love and devotion to the woman he has been married to for 68 years. His heart may not be the healthiest but it is abundant in love and care. Even though he hardly remembers my name because of Alzheimer’s, I know he recognizes me by the twinkle in his eyes. His firm hugs will make you feel protected from any harm and holding his soft wrinkled hand will give you courage. Grandpa is the one man I know I can count on. He has always been there and if I was ever in the wrong he quietly guided me in the right direction. Whether he is hitting you in the back of the leg with his cane because you are in his way or kissing you on the cheek and telling you how beautiful you look; you always know that he does, in fact, love you.

....hope it will be helpful
