(a).Great care should be taken while handling laboratory acids and bases because these are corrosive in nature, irritating and harmful to skin. When an acidic solution is mixed with a basic solution, both the solutions neutralise the effect of each other. In neutralisation reaction a new substance is formed.

(b).The solid baking soda does not change colour of dry litmus paper because in solid states ions are not free to move. And solution of baking soda in water leads to change in the colour of dry litmus paper because in water baking soda dissociate into ions and ions leads to change in colour of litmus paper.
