Heya Mate ur answer is...

Magnesium has a valency of 2 and chlorine has of 1 so, in order to form a bond with Mg , Cl need to give 2 electrons so, two chlorine atoms are required to form a bond with Magnesium.

Hope it helps ❤❤❤❤

Because the no. of valence electrons in One chlorine atom is 1 and magnesium atom has 2 valence electrons. So to satisfy it's electronic configuration or complete their octet 2 chlorine atoms combine with one magnesium atom.
