Endocytosis and exocytosis are the methods by which cells move substances into or out of the cell that is too big to promptly pass through the lipid bilayer of the cell membrane. Big molecules, microorganisms and trash products are some of the substances that are moved through the cell membrane through the process of exocytosis and endocytosis.

A scenario where a cell may need to perform a form of endocytosis and exocytosis

  • There are substances that are extremely large to pass through the cell membrane by using methods. There are times when a cell will require to engulf a bacterium or discharge a hormone. It is during this scene that bulk transport mechanisms are required.

  • Endocytosis and exocytosis are the bulk transport mechanisms which are utilized in eukaryotes. As these transport procedures require energy so they are called active transport processes.
