Lushkoff is the protagonist ( the principal character in a work of fiction ) in the story The Beggar by Anton Chekhov . Lushkoff is a pretentious and lying beggar who disguises his true identity and fools the giver . Sometimes he tend to become a village school teacher or a student . He was also very lazy .
He had became a better not due to circumstances but by choice because he was strong and healthy enough to apply for any job but he pent all his time in begging and buying alcohol with the money .
