Answer:

We visited the temple on a Saturday evening, so we encountered a huge rush of people at the temple complex. We faced little difficulty in reaching the parking lot and parking the car as the roads that lead to the temple are very narrow. Although the temple is well managed, there is no one available to manage parking. On a day like Saturday, there is a long line of vehicles waiting to park in the small parking area, that too on a road that is very steep.

But once parking was taken care of, the experience inside the temple was very good. The temple is built in beautiful white marble on a hill top. There is an elevator for elderly and disabled and others can take the stairs to multi-story building. Each floor houses a different deity and the walls have photographs of saints/religious leaders from different groups. There is a long line to get into the main temple at the top. The view from the top floor, especially at night time, is amazing wherein you can see the whole city of Hyderabad including the Hussain Sagar Lake and Lumbini Park with Buddha statue. It feels very peaceful once you reach inside the main temple. People are generally well behaved and moving along with the line.

Once you have finished the darshan at the temple, you can take stairs or elevator to come down. There is a snack shop near the parking area and also a gift shop. The gift shop is a little old and pricey. There is prasadam available just outside the gift shop. There is a small market right outside the main gate of the temple on the road.

Overall, a wonderful experience - both seeing the temple and the view of the city from the top of the temple. If you are visiting the city of Hyderabad, keep Birla Temple in your list of must see places!!

TEMPLE

A temple has a special place in Indian Hindu life. It is an exclusive place where people go to worship, to pay their thanks to some Overseeing power for His bounties and blessings. There was a time when education was imparted in temples but it was purely religious. A temple (from the Latin 'templum') is a structure usually built for the purpose of, and always dedicated to, religious or spiritual activities including prayer, meditation, sacrifice and worship. The templum was a sacred precinct defined by a priest (or augur) as the dwelling place of a god or gods and the structure built there was created to honor the Deus Loci (spirit) of a certain place. Early temples were constructed on sites which the people felt had a numinous quality to them which indicated the presence of a god, gods, or spirit. The form and function of temples is thus very variable, though they are often considered by believers to be in some sense the "house" of one or more deities. Typically offerings of some sort are made to the deity, and other rituals enacted, and a special group of clergy maintain, and operate the temple. The degree to which the whole population of believers can access the building varies significantly; often parts or even the whole main building can only be accessed by the clergy. Temples typically have a main building and a larger precinct, which may contain many other buildings, or may be a dome shaped structure, much like an igloo.A Hindu temple is a symbolic house, the seat and dwelling of Hindu gods.[8] It is a structure designed to bring human beings and gods together according to Hindu faith. Inside its Garbhagriha innermost sanctum, a Hindu temple contains a Murti or Hindu god's image. Hindu temples are large and magnificent with a rich history. There is evidence of use of sacred ground as far back as the Bronze Age and later during the Indus Valley Civilization.
