Answer :

Boiling point of an alkane -

Since, alkane are non-polar so their molecule are held together by weak Vander Waal force of attraction.

Due to this, the boiling point of alkane is very low. As the molecular mass and surface increases, the Vander Waal force of attraction increases.

Among isomeric alkane, as the branching increases the surface area of a molecule decreases because the molecule tends to approach spherical shape. Due to this boiling point decreases.

Heya mate
The answer of ur question is

Boiling point of the alkane can be determined by the following points

● Boiling points increases as the number of carbons is increased.

● The increased boiling point in larger alkanes is due to greater intermolecular attraction i.e. dispersion forces between molecules.

● Branching in the compound decreases the boiling point .

☆☆ So , generally alkanes have low melting point because of very weak intermolecular forces between alkane molecules. Alkane molecules have vanderwal forces of attractions between molecules

hope it helps
