In 1572, Akbar directed an expedition against Gujarat and compelled it to submit. The conquest of Gujarat brought his empire into contact with the Arabian Sea. Akbar's attention was next turned towards Bengal, whose ruler Daud Khan declared independence in 1576.

In 1570 Gujarat,Bengal and Orissa were conquered. In 1576 Akbar fought the battle of Haldighati with Rana Pratap,son of Raja Uday singh of Mewar. He also brought Barar Khandesh and parts of Ahmednagar under his control. Between 1581 to 1598 Kashmir,Sind,Kandahar and Kabul was conquered
