If an object is kept on a table, then two forces acts on it, the gravitational force due to Earth and the normal contact force due to the table.
In this case, the normal force is equal in magnitude and also opposite to the direction of gravitational force. Therefore, the net force acting on the object will be zero..
There can be many physical situations similar to this one..

A CUBE IMMERSED IN WATER HAS FORCE ACTING ON  ALL THE FACES THEREFORE THE NET FORCE IS 0.
