Robert Clive was sent from the Madras Presidency to capture Calcutta. He conspired with MirJafar,theCommander-in-cheif of Siraj-ud-Daulah.

The EEIC official also managed to win over other important member of Siraj-ud-Daulah's court such as Jagat Seth

(banker) and Omi Chand (a rich merchant). With their support, the British forces defeated the forces of Nawab Siraj-ud -Daulah in the Battle of Plassey in 1757.
