Participation Is More Important Than Winning

Participation undoubtedly is more important than winning. Without participation one can never hope to win. All the great achievers or winners of the world have been men and women who just kept trying again and again. Success never happens on first attempt or in fact many initial attempts.

Participation is very essential. Let’s see the benefits of participation. Participating in a real event, activity or pursuit provides us real hands-on experience which we would never know without participating in that particular activity. For example, a child who wishes to learn skating can never learn it watching others do the skating. Even imagining or visualizing won’t be of much use. He will have to dare to put on skates and go inside the rink. He must fall many times, even injure himself frequently initially before learning to balance and maneuver. Participating is the first step to winning. Failing and facing challenges is the second stage involved in the process to be successful. Perseverance is the third most important stage that one must reach. Success or winning lies in the fourth level.

Similarly, if one wants to be adept at any other skill. This four stage protocol is a must. Life has gifted us many great personages from whom we can derive inspiration of participation. Mahatma Gandhi, Nelson Mandela, Martin Luther, Albert Einstein, and Louis Pasteur all participated enthusiastically in their respective spheres of actions. Fear of failures never ever discouraged them from doing more, trying and striving. They learnt the needed lessons and made themselves better human beings and God blessed them with success in their fields. So we must sublimate our bitterness into betterment in the fire of failures.

The elders such as parents and teachers must encourage the young ones to focus more on participation and less on winning. They must explain to them participation is the means to reach the ends of winning.

Answer:

We should all have the will to win but winning is not everything. The whole struggle which you do to win something is also very important. But sometimes losing is also beneficial for us. It is not necessary to win every time your participate. Sometimes you have to go through failures too. Every experience teaches you something which makes you more mature and capable of dealing with problems. Participation is more important than just winning.
