The Widow Remarriage Act of 1856 passed by Warren Hastings interfered with people's religion. Especially , it affected the Pandits and Maulvis who raised the cry that thier religion was on danger.

The general service enlistment act of 1857 stated that the troops of India should be ready to fight for the British anytime , anywhere inside or outside the country . The soldiers saw that as an attempt to destroy thier religion.
