Hyder Ali Khan,Haidarālī(c. 1720 – 7 December 1782) was theSultanandde factoruler of theKingdom of Mysoreinsouthern India. Born asSayyidwalSharifHyder AliKhan,[2]he distinguished himself militarily, eventually drawing the attention of Mysore's rulers. Rising tothe post ofDalavayi(commander-in-chief) toKrishnaraja Wodeyar II, he came to dominate the titular monarch and the Mysore government. He became the de facto ruler of Mysore asSarvadhikari(Chief Minister) by 1761.[2]He offered strong resistance against the military advances of theBritishEast India Companyduring theFirstandSecondAnglo–Mysore Wars, and he was the innovator of military use of the iron-casedMysorean rockets. He also significantly developed theeconomy of the Kingdom of Mysore.

Hyder Ali was the Muslim ruler of Mysore one of the princely states and army commander who executed a crucial role in the conflicts of the mid-18th century in southern India. He followed the military tactics of Joseph-François Dupleix, a Frenchman. He appeared as a mighty resistance against the English East India Company's military. He invented the iron-cased rockets. He fought the two initial Anglo–Mysore Wars against the East India Company.
